Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for Work Health and Safety qualifications

Almost every day of every week I receive emails and telephone calls that go like this “I am in a senior Safety role and want to RPL the Diploma of Work Health and Safety”.

This sounds like a perfectly reasonable request but there is a hidden problem and that relates to the entry requirements of the BSB51315 Diploma of Work Health and Safety qualification. The  entry requirements very clearly state, that to enter the BSB51315 Diploma of Work Health and Safety, you must hold the core Units of Competency of BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety. No RTO is able to go around this rule thus you have to RPL or complete the 5 core units before you can enrol in the BSB51315 Diploma of Work Health and Safety qualification.

When you look at what evidence we require it can seem daunting but we have to be able to prove you satisfactorily meet the requirements in every element that constitutes each individual units of competency. The frustration arises for the applicant when they know they have done something in the past but have no formal record of it and in this situation we simply cannot pass a claim based on what we are told; we and all RTO’s are audited by the federal government and we must retain the evidence of RPL’s.

To assist those in this situation we have just designed a package deal that allows you to apply for RPL of the core units of a subordinate qualification and enrol in the more senior qualification. Should your RPL claim fail we will issue you the resources to complete the core units at no additional cost. This is available for both BSB51315 Diploma of Work Health and Safety and BSB60615 Advanced Diploma of Work Health and Safety
