16 Jan Time and tide wait for no man.
In 1225, St Marher is recorded as having made the statement above. However, why would we be quoting it here you might ask?
We are inundated with telephone calls from frantic Trainers and Assessors as well as Managers of RTO’s all asking the same questions and wanting a quick solution to the legislative requirement that all Trainers and assessors must, by the 31/3/19 hold, as a minimum;
TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment;
TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools and
TAELLN401A/411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy.
As an RTO that delivers TAE nationally, we have scheduled as many open courses as we can in each of the states and the Northern Territory. However, the fact is we will never be able to cater for all of those that have left their run too late. Some folk will lose their job on 1/4/19 because they do not hold the legislated requirement and there is no way around this.
We are averaging 2 to 3 in-house enquiries each day with RTO’s that want us to conduct skills gap training for their trainers and assessors, and we’ve had to say we can’t assist. HBA has a full schedule for the next 2 months with RTO’s that booked and paid for their courses back in September and October 2018.
Additionally, we are seeing our open courses book out in record times. Our website will tell you that any assessment we receive prior to the close of business 1/3/19 will be assessed and if found to be competent the qualification or SOA will be issued prior to 31/3/19.
Our greatest fear is being hit with 1,000 assessments/resubmissions in the last week of March; as there is no way we or any other RTO can deal with this. To a large extent we can control the learners that attend our 3 and 4 day courses because we know where they are up to but the self-paced learners are the real unknown.
Thus, if you have not enrolled and you want to remain a trainer and an assessor in VET, get the skills gap training over and done with whilst you still have time. There is a lot of work to do in the required units of competency and April 1st will be here before we know it.
